Letters & Numbers
This is my way of unwinding after the day - it's totally invigorating. And why do we have to import Countdown from Britain as we couldn't manage mind games ourselves? I thought the days of that kind of cultural cringe were over. This is the worst programming decision in a long time. Bring it back.

I cannot believe that SBS is taking off this show. It allows people of all ages to test their wits against the contestants and discover how well their mind adapts to new ways of solving puzzles in both categories.
As can be evidenced by the ages of the contestants, it appeals to all age groups and its demise will take away what has been a pleasurable half hour each weekday evening for many people.

L&N's demise
So the last bastion against the tide of dumbed-down local television is being rested indefinitely. As for its replacement, Countdown, has it escaped SBS's attention that we in Australia speak Australian English? We've delighted in its quirkiness as expounded by David Astle and expected to continue to do so. Keep Countdown for the Poms!

Its the only TV game-show aimed at challenging an adult audience without resorting to celebrity contestants!

PLEASE SBS help REVERSING the moronising influence of television and bring this show BACK, with TEN times the amount of broadcasts. Braingames, the greatest sports of all. Maybe Australia will then REALLY become a clever nation......

Re. August 1
Thanks for that news, Jan, but with no official announcement I'd have to treat it with some skepticism. August 1 is a Wednesday, too, which would be a very odd day for airing to resume. That said, I would, of course, be delighted if it turns out to be the case.
