Letters & Numbers must stay!
Having discovered Letters and Numbers recently, I've thoroughly enjoyed the mental competition and the great chemistry between the three hosts. The show has boosted my vocabulary, taught me some really good mental maths techniques, and just seems to be the kind of show a person can easily enjoy with their family, as many others have noted. It's really saddening to see it go, there have been many great personalities on this show, and the banter between the three hosts on everything from buttons to 'pure' mathematics to flowery shirts and ties has really added to the atmosphere. Just as importantly, I felt that this was a unique show amongst Australian-produced shows, simple but high-quality and family-friendly. SBS, please reconsider this decision, as I hope you see how many people have enjoyed Letters and Numbers through its time on television.

One of the few good things on our TV
After a day at work performing mind numbing duties. Lying on the couch crunching some numbers and words with intelligent people is what I need when I get home.

SBS - Read the Letters - Do the Numbers. We don't need another imported show!!
Come On Down - You're in The Hot Seat!

Cultural values
Very few original shows survive reproduction. Something of the original essence is lost in translation, to wit; The Office USA, Grand Designs Australia and Top Gear USA (worth a look just for how appalling it is). Letters & Numbers is one of the rare exceptions. Richard Morecroft and the team have created a wonderful local version of a successful British format. Simply importing the UK version will reduce the show to nothing more than a generic quiz game, using the OED as the reference source rather than the Macquarie. This outcome will diminish the additional value that L&N provided through David Astle's thoughtful explanations of idiom and vernacular.

Long Live Letters & Numbers
So another quality Australian TV program bites the dust! David Astle and Lily Serna with moderator Richard Morecroft provided an insight into the intricacies of words and maths for all to enjoy ... children to grandparents shared happy family time together and exercised their minds in a fun way. We will miss it at our household and maybe someone smart at SBS reconsiders their decision and lets it roll on again some day soon. I'll have to give my Macquarie Dictionary another look from time to time.

As they say, 'If it ain't broke, it don't need fixing.' L&N is definitely not 'broke' and it definitely does not need to be either 'fixed' or replaced.

Sad to see the end of this educational show, however the time slot is inconvenient for most families, why not try 7.30 or 8 pm or even 7 pm against the pathetic shows on offer from the other commercial channels.

I turn on my TV at 6pm each night to watch this program

But most of all when my grandchildren are visiting we watch and learn together

Sometimes we are on Skype competing with each other
